Color Me, Stress-Free
Many of us can remember the joy that coloring books brought us as a child throughout our youth. Nowadays, adult coloring books have surged in popularity, allowing people to relieve stress in a unique way and relive that same joy from childhood. For my project, I plan to create my own coloring book with a specific focus on using artistic expression as a method of therapy and developing healthy coping mechanisms regarding mental health. This coloring book will include color-able mandalas and incorporate mindfulness prompts with each design to guide users through the process of using coloring as a form of relaxation, self-care, and a tool for developing a healthy mindset. I will also create a platform for people to share their colored-in versions of my coloring pages, along with their experiences and reflections regarding my coloring book, to encourage therapy through community. My audience is Gen Z and millennials, especially those who struggle with accessible mental health resources in this time of COVID-19 and tend to express themselves through visual mediums. I hope to positively impact the mental wellbeing of my intended audience and educate them on the use of art, mediation, and community as therapy.
